Russia To Reduce The Number Of Troops In Chechnya

Russia has decided on reducing the number of troops stationed in Chechnya. At a Wednesday conference held in the Grozny House of the Government, the newly appointed Commander of Russia's Joint Federal Forces in Chechnya General Vladimir Moltenskoi confirmed that "redundant" troops would return to the places of their permanent stationing but did not say when. The number of troops remaining in Chechnya will just be enough to solve the tasks facing the anti-terrorist operation at the current stage. Earlier, Chechen Premier Stanislav Ilyasov said the withdrawal of troops from Chechnya would be accompanied by the augmenting of the republic's law enforcement authorities and increasing the number of Chechen policemen to 10,000.
