Vice-premier Gordeyev Says Russia's Agriculture Remains In Critical Situation

Despite the positive tendencies, Russia's agriculture is still in a critical situation, Vice-Premier and Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexei Gordeyev said at a Moscow press conference Wednesday. Speaking of the results of the State Council's visiting session, which was held in the Orenburg Region, Southern Urals, on Tuesday and discussed the development of the agricultural complex, Gordeyev deemed it necessary to provide conditions for its large-scale recovery. The debt receivable of agriculture now stands at 260 billion roubles. Touching upon the positive trends in the development of the country's farm production, Gordeyev said that a growth of the output of meat by one per cent and of milk by two per cent is expected this year (for the first time over the past decade).
