Abkhazian Troops Prevent Gunmen From Advancing To Black Sea Coast

Law-enforcers of Abkhazia (a self-proclaimed republic on Georgian territory) are trying to prevent the blockaded groups of Chechen and Georgian gunmen from advancing to the Black Sea coast. Officials in the Abkhazian Defence Ministry told RIA Novosti Wednesday that measures were taken to destroy the gunmen and simultaneously dislodge them from Abkhazia. According to Abkhazian military, the forces involved in the operation include units of Defence and Interior Ministries employing armour and heavy weapons. The Abkhazian troops use small mobile groups to operate in the mountainous terrain. According to the Abkhazian Defence Ministry, last night was calm in the operation area, and the situation remained stable around the Kodor gorge. According to the updated information, the gang of Georgian and Chechen gunmen who blockaded in the Kodor gorge is 300 people strong.
