Javier Solana: Serbia, Montenegro Division Will Not Prompt Their Integration Into EU

Javier Solana, UN High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, called "erroneous" the opinion that disintegration of Serbia and Montenegro will speed up the process of their joining the European Union. He said this in Belgrade on Tuesday after a meeting with Yugoslavia's Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic. Solana arrived in Belgrade to discuss with the Yugoslav authorities settlement of relations between these two republics of the Yugoslav federation. The Montenegrin leadership are known to insist it disintegrate from the federation. The European Union's representative also said that the EU is ready to help promote Serbia-Montenegro dialogue.
