Moscow Believes That Accords On Reduction Of Nuclear Arsenals Must Not Be Only On Paper

Russia's Foreign Ministry holds that the accords on further reduction of the nuclear arsenals must be "first, radical - 1,500-2,200 nuclear charges; second, controlled; and third, irreversible, that is to say, the strategic offensive arms will not be reduced only 'on paper'", says the statement by spokesman for the Ministry Alexander Yakovenko. Alexander Yakovenko dwelled on this question, commenting on the reports about the US strategic plans in the nuclear sphere, including unilateral cuts in nuclear arms and the reports that the other day the White House reaffirmed that many warheads, bombs and intercontinental missiles from among those which are to be cut in accordance with George Bush's statement will not be destroyed but will be kept in reserve.
