Tender To Broadcast On Tv-6 Channel Might Be Held In April This Year

Mikhail Lesin, head of the Russian Ministry for Press, stated live to "Moscow Echo" radio station that the tender to broadcast on TV-6 channel might be held in April this year. He spoke about further development of the situation with the TV-6 company in connection with the court decision to liquidate the "Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation" closed joint-stock company (MIBC) which broadcast on this channel. On 11 January the Board of the Higher Arbitration Court confirmed the ruling to liquidate the "Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation" which broadcast on TV-6 channel. The Higher Arbitration court upheld the ruling of the Moscow Arbitration Court made on 27 September last year. At that time the court ordered to liquidate the TV-6 channel in response to a suit brought by a non-state pension fund "LUKoil Garant", one of the MIBC shareholders. According to Mikhail Lesin, initially a tender for temporary broadcasting "on the 6th button" would be held followed by the bid to broadcast on a permanent basis. The minister stated that formally there were several options: shareholders might relinquish the license by applying to the Ministry or the Ministry might suspend the licence on the basis of court rulings and bankruptcy procedures. Lesin indicated that at the moment the Press Ministry was "engaged in legal examination of the matter". The Press minister said that "we had to submit to the requirements stated" and emphasized that his department "would spare no efforts" in order to make the existing situation lead to "a minimum number of" negative consequences for viewers and journalists of the channel.
