Law on deferment of call-up for military service adopted in Russia

On Wednesday the Federation Council - the upper chamber of the Russian parliament - unanimously adopted a law on amendments to the laws On Military Duty and Military Service and On Education which are now in force. In keeping with these amendments, Russian schoolboys receive the right to deferment of call-up for active military service. A secondary education schoolboys will receive deferment of call-up till they reach 20 years of age.

Full-time students and those who decide to receive a second higher education also receive deferment of call-up for military service. But in the second case deferment is given for no more than three years.

The law must come into force after the president of the country signs it.
