Russia Continues to Withdraw Military Property from Transdniestria

Russia has resumed the withdrawal of its military property from Transdniestria, a self-proclaimed republic in Moldova with mostly Russian population. The staff of the Russian troops in Transdniestria told RIA Novosti that in the early hours of Saturday, this year's fourth military train was dispatched from the autonomy's capital, Tiraspol, to Russia. All in all, 38 railway cars and platforms were loaded with the equipment and property of the engineering service of the former 14th Russian army, that was earlier withdrawn from there under the agreement with Moldova.

Another train, with ammo this time, will be dispatched next week.

In accordance with the decisions of the OSCE summit held in December 1999 in Istanbul, Russia committed itself to fully take out the armaments and ammunition from Moldovan territory by the end of 2002. The term was later extended to December 31, 2003.
