New Digital Seismic Station Commissioned in Chukot Peninsula

A new digital seismic station has been commissioned in Anadyr (the Chukot Peninsula on the Sea of Okhotsk).

The government of the Chukot autonomous region reported on Wednesday that the capacity and software of the established computer equipment made it possible to register underground tremors throughout the world. The transmitters are placed under the building.

The latest equipment located within the seismic station which was earlier closed, occupies 10 times less area, and one operator is enough to handle it.

The Anadyr seismic station will work in close collaboration with the recently established Chukot centre of monitoring and forecasting emergency situations.

Another digital seismic station will be built on the Chukot peninsula before the end of the year.

The data received from the two stations will make it possible to more accurately determine the place of the earthquake and its force.
