Average pension almost equal to subsistence level

The average amount of a pension was 1,337 rubles ($42.38) in Russia in thesecond quarter of 2002, while the subsistence level for pensioners was1,383 rubles ($43.84), the Russian State Statistics Committee reported. Sothe ratio of the amount of the average pension and the subsistence levelwas 96.7 percent in the second quarter of 2002, compared to 85.4 percent inthe corresponding period of last year.The ratio of the average monthly wage that amounted to 4,257 rubles($134.93) and the subsistence level for employable people (1,960 rubles or$62.12) was 217.2 percent in the second three months of 2002 in Russia,compared to 188.5 percent in the second quarter of 2001. The ratio of theaverage income of Russia's population (3,532 rubles or $112.13) and theaverage subsistence level (1,804 rubles or $57.18) was 195.8 percent in theperiod from April to June 2002, compared to 180.2 percent in thecorresponding period of 2001..
