Gov't commission to consider use of natural gas as engine fuel

An enlarged session of the government commission on the use of the naturaland liquid gas as an engine fuel will be held at Gazprom's office onSeptember 3, 2002, the press service of the Russian gas holding reported.The goal of the meeting is to draw the attention of the public, executivebranch and businessmen to perspectives of the use of natural gas, which ischeaper and ecologically cleaner than other engine fuels.It is planned to elaborate on and submit to the government a draft concept,which is to be based on the results of the meeting, on using natural gas asan engine fuel. Moreover, the commission will apply to the State Dumaasking to complete the work on the bill 'On the Use of Natural Gas as anEngine Fuel'.Participants of the meeting will also discuss Gazprom's furtherparticipation in the international project 'Blue Corridor' that wasprepared by the UN European economic commission. This project envisagesthat 10 percent of automobiles in European countries will use natural gasas an engine fuel in 2020.Among participants of the meeting are to be members of Gazprom's executiveboard, members of the Federation Council, deputies of the State Duma,representatives of the Russian government and regional authorities..
