Horror in Woolwich: Soldier hacked to death

Allahu Akhbar! Allaaaaaaaaaaaaahu Akhbar! God is Great! How many times did we hear that when a Libyan terrorist murdered a law-abiding citizen? How many times have we heard that cry from the western-backed Syrian terrorists? Now we hear it in London as a soldier is hacked to pieces in broad daylight by two Islamist fanatics wielding axes.

14.20 GMT, Tuesday May 22 2013. Artillery Place, off John Wilson Street, Woolwich, London. Two men shouting Allahu Akhbar, one wielding a meat cleaver and the other a handgun, turned on a British soldier and hacked him to death in broad daylight in front of horrified passers-by. The police, called to the scene, shot the two men, who are now detained in hospital. One is in a serious condition.

The two men in question are said to be British with Nigerian connections, and before the police led them away, they encouraged passers-by to take photographs of them and the soldier they had murdered, justifying what they had done because British soldiers kill Moslems every day. One told a woman bystander "I am fed up that people kill Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan".

The result is that the British Armed Forces have told soldiers to hide their uniforms when leaving barrack, while the Government called the COBRA emergency think tank meeting, whose members included Prime Minister David Cameron, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the MI5 Director Andrew Parker, the Home Secretary Theresa May, the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond and the London Mayor Boris Johnson.

The question they are all asking is whether this is a "lone wolf" attack, or else part of a wider conspiracy involving Al-Qaeda, since two previous attacks against soldiers by this organization were foiled.

The answer to this question is where have the Government of the United Kingdom been and why is anyone minimally surprised that this has happened? It has been brewing for years. Anyone who knows a member of the British Armed Forces knows that they are terrified to leave the barracks in uniform for fear of being spat at, called a "murderer" or worse, attacked... in this case, hacked to pieces.

While this sort of incident has nothing to do with Islam (a religion of peace) and while most Muslims living in the UK are law-abiding citizens, Britain's own foreign policy of course sets the country's soldiers up as targets both abroad and at home.

As tensions run high, there have already been two reprisal attacks against Mosques and 250 members of the English Defence League clashed with the police in Woolwich. While community leaders in the UK will be working hard to calm things down and make sure the Islamic community is protected, the question remains that while British troops are engaged overseas in combat missions, supporting terrorist groups in Libya and Syria and killing people in Iraq and Afghanistan, however unacceptable this type of revenge attack may be, it is only a natural, if warped, consequence of a belligerent foreign policy.
