European Soccer: Latest. 44281.jpegIn England, Manchester United look set to lift their nineteenth title after beating Chelsea this weekend 2-1; the French title is still up for grabs. In Iberia, Barcelona and FC Porto have already won, respectively, the Spanish and Portuguese leagues while in Germany, Borussia Dortmund is Champion with one match left.

Manchester United 2 Chelsea FC 1. This result sealed the nineteenth victory in the English premiership for the northern club (bar a disaster in the last two games). Champions League places next season will also go to Chelsea, Arsenal and either Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham, with Everton set to get a place in the Europa League. The FA Cup will be between Stoke City and Manchester City.

England has 4 Champions League places for 2011-2012 and 3 Europa League places. At the bottom of the table, three teams will go down (2 matches remaining) among West Ham United (33 points), Wigan (36), Blackpool (36), Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves, 37), Birmingham City (39), Blackburn Rovers (42) and Aston Villa (42). Queens Park Rangers (London) and Norwich City are already promoted from the Championship, with the following four teams fighting for the third place: Swansea City, Cardiff, Reading and Nottingham Forest.

The French title is between LOSC Lille Métropole and Olympique de Marseille with 4 games to play. The third Champions league place looks set to land between third-placed Olympique Lyonnais and fourth-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC. The contenders for the three Europa League places are Stade Rennais FC, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, FC Lorient and AS Saint-Étienne.

In Germany, with one match to play, Borussia Dortmund is Champion, with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich set to get the other two Champions League places. The three Europa League places should go to Hannover 96, FSV Mainz, FC Nurnburg.

In Portugal, FC Porto has wrapped up yet another championship, its twenty-fifth and will play in both the Europa League final against neighbours Sporting Clube de Braga and the final of the Portuguese Cup. Benfica will enter the play-off phase of the Champions League while the four UEFA places should go to Guimarães (Cup), SC Braga, Sporting Clube de Portugal, and one from Nacional (Madeira), Paços de Ferreira and Rio Ave.

Barcelona has won the Spanish Liga, the other three Champions League places going to Real Madrid, Valencia and either Villarreal or Athletic Bilbao, while the three Europa League places will be decided among the one left out of the Champions League, Sevilla, Atlético de Madrid and Espanyol.

With two games left to play, AC Milan seem set to win the Italian Liga, with rivals Inter in second place. The other two Champions League places will be for Napoli and Udinese, Roma or Lazio. Juventus will make up the third Europa League place along with those teams which don't make it to the Champions League.

In the Netherlands, with one game left, FC Twente leads (71 points) ahead of Ajax (70) and PSV Eindhoven (68) for the two Champions League spots. Vying for the three Europa League places are also Alkmaar, Groningen, Roda and Den Haag.
