No incidents of swine flu infection reported in Russia

The two Russian women, who were hospitalized with symptoms of swine flu, were diagnosed with common cold, the Echo of Moscow Radio Station said.

“Their condition does not raise any alarm. The lab tests showed a negative reaction to the virus,” Russia’s Surgeon General Gennady Onischenko said. The two women had fever as they arrived from the United States. They were hospitalized at Moscow’s Infectious Disease Hospital as swine flu suspects.

It was not the first incident of swine flu anxiety in Moscow after people began dying of swine flu in Mexico. An ER crew arrived at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo-2 International Airport after a 29-year-old woman, named only as Elena P. arrived from Mexico with suspicious symptoms. The woman was hospitalized to the infectious hospital as well.

The governmental committee, which was set up in Russia to prevent the penetration of the deadly disease in Russia, was informed about the hospitalization of Russia’s first possible swine flu patient. However, lab tests showed that Elena P. suffered a plain respiratory infection.

For the time being, there have been no incidents of swine flu reported in Russia. Medical services control all flights from South and North Americas.

Infections of the A/H1N1 virus were confirmed in the USA, Britain, Israel, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Hong Kong. The World Health Organization raised the swine flu alert from Phase 4 to Phase 5 on April 29. Phase 5 means that there is a danger of a global pandemic, although the outbreak does not constitute a global pandemic yet.

The first incident of the A/H1N1 virus infection was reported in Mexico on April 2. The mutant virus was found with a five-year-old boy Edgar Hernandez. The boy lives in the village of La Gloria in the Mexican state of Veracruz, the home of one of the world’s largest pig farms. The farm is controlled by Smithfield Foods of the USA.

The boy has completely recovered from the disease.
