UN investigates use of sarin gas as Israel attacks Syria

A UN special commission will investigate the use of chemical weapons in the Arab nation. The Syrian Government had filed an official complaint with President of the Security Council and to the general secretary after the Israeli attack.

The UN special commission studying possible violations committed in Syria have revealed evidence that the armed opposition has used sarin gas in their attacks on the population and noted that no documented use of chemical weapons by the government of Bashar al Assad

The Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria has announced that the tests based on testimonies of victims and medical personnel in Syria reveal that armed gangs trying to overthrow the government of Bashar al Assad have used sarin, considered a weapon of mass destruction in UN Resolution 687.

"Our investigators have been questioning neighbors, victims, doctors and, according to his report last week, there is a strong and concrete suspicion, though not yet incontrovertible, on the use of sarin gas," said Carla del Ponte, member of the UN Special Commission.

The commissioner said that the group of UN experts involved in the investigation have not documented the use of chemical weapons by the government of Bashar al Assad.

Sarin or GB is a colorless, odorless liquid used as a chemical weapon because of its extreme potency as a nerve agent. It was classified as a weapon of mass destruction in Resolution 687 of the UN and their production and stockpiling was outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993.

According to the commission report, sarin was used by the opposition, not by governmental authorities.  The United States and its allies have wanted to justify military action in Syria to the international community .

This research on the use of chemical weapons is related to inquiries about possible human rights violations committed in the context of violence in Syria since 2011 when terrorist groups funded and supplied weapons by the U.S. and its allies in the region try seize power by force.

On the 17th of  December, the Syrian ambassador to the UN, Bashar Jaafari, denounced the possible use of chemical weapons by terrorists in Syria and their attempt to link it to the Government.

Damascus is "genuinely concerned" that the enemies of Syria could and have provided chemical weapons to armed groups "and then claim to have been used by the Syrian government," said Jafari.

Meanwhile, the western media in lockstep with bogus American and Israeli claims, continues to assert that the government of Syria was responsible, while most o fthe world community knows this to be false.

On Saturday, Israel launched a missile attack against the Jamraya Centre for Scientific Research , near Damascus. The Israeli military action received condemnations from both the Syrian government, which has warned of the consequences, as well as other countries and international organizations, including Iran, the Arab League and the UN.

Earlier, the Jamraya site was the target of an Israeli strike on January 30.

Initial information indicated that explosions took place in Jamraya and targeted the Scientific Research Center there causing casualties.

The information also indicated that these explosions have been caused by Israeli rocket attacks.

The new Israeli aggression is a clear attempt to raise terrorist morale after the blows they received at the hands of the Syrian army in several places and after the achievements which were realized on the ground by the armed forces to restore security and stability to Syria.

The new Israeli aggression shows the direct involvement of Israel in the conspiracy against Syria and the relationship that links the armed terrorist groups with Israeli, western, regional and some Gulf state schemes against the progressive Syrian state.

Hezbollah's Al-Manar station claimed the explosion may have been a downed Israeli jet.
