The Cuban journalist Rosa Miriam Elizalde denounced on Tuesday the aggression by the United States against Cuba and U.S. government funds in the millions delivered to counterrevolutionary groups. About 75% of Cubans have lived under a blockade. Besides the economic war, there are media campaigns, plans of destabilization and terrorist attacks.
"Between 1997 and 2012, Washington has allocated more than 200 million dollars for subversive programs against Cuba" denounces Rosa Miriam Elizalde said at a conference at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The publisher's site CubaDebate and author of several books, including "Clic Internet" and "Chavez Nuestro", recalled that the long history of aggression did not start now, but at the time of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
"About 75% of Cubans have lived under a policy of blockade," said the journalist, adding that besides the economic war, there are media campaigns, plans of destabilization and terrorist attacks.
During the conference presented a part of the documentary was "Cuba's reasons" denouncing the funding, delivery of equipment and open support by Washington to counterrevolutionaries.
"Are interest groups without the ability for major expression in Cuba or are they motivated by the desire to emigrate or to obtain certain economic benefits," denounced Elizalde.
Members attending the conference at the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,included the permanent missions of many countries, as well as the international solidarity movement with Cuba.
Also representatives of non-governmental organizations attended, among them the Cuban Association of the United Nations, the National Union of Jurists and the Federation of Cuban Women.
The conference was held the day before the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Cuba in the Human Rights Council of the UN. The report that the Caribbean nation will present before the committee denounces the increase of funds and resources from the U.S. government for the destruction of the legitimite constitutional order of the Cuban people.
This text also reveals attacks promoted, organized or financed by the United States from their territory, ranging from biological invasions to assaults, radio and television, plans to assassinate its leaders and major sabotage of different sectors.
As a result of 681 terrorist actions and a mercenary invasion, all with proven documentation, Cuba suffered the irreparable loss of life of 3,478 women, men and children, while 2,099 others were physically disabled.
