NYT reveals where Armed Forces of Ukraine plans to counter attack

Ukraine decided to start a counter-offensive in the south of the country in order to recapture Kherson. Such plans are described in The New York Times.

The newspaper refers to a statement by Ukrainian officials who said that the country's Armed Forces recently attacked more than 200 Russian targets and military units using long-range missiles and artillery.

Nevertheless, military analysts and Western officials say that it is too early to talk about a fundamental change. They are skeptical that the supply of modern weapons to Ukraine will be able to change the course of events.

According to the publication, Western officials are concerned that Kyiv, inspired by their support, may launch a counteroffensive too soon. And the Pentagon fears that its own stockpile of weapons will run out in the coming months.

“By stepping up attacks in the south, Ukraine is facing another strategic challenge: how to use its new lethal capabilities (weapons entering the country), concentrate firepower for defense in the east or attack the southern city of Kherson,” the journalists of the publication note and add that the West doubts the readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to conduct a major counter-offensive in the Kherson region.
