US President Joe Biden has tested positive for coronavirus, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
“This morning, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19,” she said, adding that the previous test, dated July 20, was negative.
According to the press secretary, the president is fully vaccinated and has been revaccinated. He is now "experiencing very mild symptoms," Jean-Pierre added.
She also noted that the head of state will work remotely until the test is negative, and the White House will report daily on the performance of his duties.
Last week, Biden visited Israel and Saudi Arabia, and the day before he traveled to Massachusetts for a public speech. Presidential aides reportedly reminded him during a Middle East tour that handshakes should be avoided to prevent the coronavirus, but Biden still occasionally shook hands with the officials he met.
Earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi were sick with coronavirus. Despite communicating with them during the incubation period, Biden managed to avoid infection.
