The United States must always remember that Russia "has something to return, for example, Alaska," State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said, RIA Novosti reports.
In his opinion, it is important for the United States to remember this call before trying to dispose of Russian resources abroad.
On July 6, at a plenary meeting of the State Duma, Nikolai Kolomeitsev, a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, said that Russia initiated an official instruction on the denunciation of the agreement with Norway on the delimitation of maritime spaces and cooperation in the Barents Sea.
In response, the speaker of the Lower House of the Russian Parliament recalled Alaska.
"Integrity is not weakness, we always have something to answer with. Let America always remember that there is a part of the territory there — Alaska. <…> They should remember that we also have something to return,” Volodin said.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled that Peter the Great had returned and strengthened Russian territories. In Putin's opinion, modern-day Russia is destined to "strengthen and return" too.
