Polish National Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak on air of Polish Radio called the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk a useful idiot of the Kremlin. The reason for this was Melnik's statements about Bandera.
"The words of the Ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin are unacceptable and inadmissible. It is interesting how much he has become a useful idiot of the Kremlin," Blashchak said.
He added that such statements drive a wedge in Poland's relations with Ukraine.
Last week, Melnyk gave an interview to a journalist from Germany, where the glorification of Nazism is prohibited by law, and called Nazi accomplice Stepan Bandera a "freedom fighter."
According to the Ambassador, Bandera had no ties with Nazi Germany, and the mass killings of peaceful Poles by Ukrainian nationalists in Volhynia and Galicia during World War II are explained by the fact that on the other side "there were many murders and atrocities." In addition, Melnyk accused Poland of wanting to politicize this story.
