Ukraine will introduce a visa regime for Russian citizens, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced.
According to Zelensky, the visa regime between Russia and Ukraine will be introduced from July 1, 2022.
The cabinet of ministers of the republic is to make a corresponding decision on June 17.
At the end of May, Zelensky supported a petition from Ukrainian citizens who demanded the introduction of visas for Russians and instructed the government to work on this issue. Zelensky explained that he supported the idea to strengthen control at the border in the face of ongoing hostilities.
Meanwhile, the European Commission recommends granting the status of EU candidates to Ukraine and Moldova if these countries continue the necessary reforms, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen said
It is expected that the final decision on the status of Ukraine and Moldova will be made at the EU summit in Brussels on June 23-24.
