USA to list Russia as sponsor of terrorism

The American administration will consider a petition to include Russia into the list of countries that sponsor terrorism. The petition has collected more than 100,000 votes.

On April 23, the petition was posted on the website of the White House, saying that Russia was conducting covert operations in Ukraine, which could be equated to international terrorism. As a result of the move to add Russia on the list of terrorist-sponsoring countries, the United States will expand the list of economic and political sanctions against Russia.

For the time being, the list of the countries sponsoring terrorism, includes Iran, Syria, Cuba and Sudan.

Power was changed in Ukraine at the end of February 2014. The Verkhovna Rada ousted President Viktor Yanukovych from power, amended the Constitution and entrusted the duties of the President at Speaker to Alexander Turchynov. At the same time, several territories in eastern and southern Ukraine, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea did not recognize the legitimacy of the decisions of the Verkhovna Rada. They declared the new government illegitimate and decided to hold a referendum about the future of their regions.
