After it has been reported that the U.S. National Security Agency was spying on a Chinese telecommunications company, China's leaders decided to take action to improve Internet safety in their country.
"According to media reports, the U.S. systematically wiretapped the phones of PRC's government agencies, companies and even individuals. We intend to take a number of concrete measures to improve online security," Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yanshen said.
The information about the NSA-led espionage over Chinese defense company Huawei Technologies, appeared on March 22 on Spiegel-online. The news story said that the Americans managed to penetrate into internal servers of the company to intercept correspondence between employees and obtain the base of 1.4 thousand private and corporate clients.
