On the 17th of April 2013, a Venezuelan-Palestine meeting took place in Caracas, where a Committee for the Defense of the Rights of the Palestinian Nation was installed.

Elías Jaua, Venezuela's Minister of Foreign Relations, re-iterated his government's support for Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations as soon as possible.

He said that the Committeee for the Defense of the Rights of the Palestinian Nation could not have been created, if Venezuela did not have an independent, sovereign, socialist and revolutionary government, headed by President Nicolás Maduro", Elías Jaua confirmed in his talks with the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riad Maliki.

"We are fulfilling our international promises and carrying on Hugo Chávez's legacy. The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will remain for Palestine a door, where the light of truth shines in," Elías Jaua explained. He also ratified bilateral relations between Venezuela and Palestine.
