Two-thirds of Russians do not forgive Turkey for the betrayal. According to recent opinion polls, 63 percent of polled Russians said that they were against the abolition of Russia's sanctions against Turkey.
The poll conducted by WCIOM showed that the vast majority of respondents (63%) were convinced that the Russian authorities should not lift sanctions against Turkey. About 21% believe the opposite.
The majority of the polled Russians also believe that Russia should not compromise with Turkey under any circumstances, unless Turkey brings an official apology for shooting down the Russian Su-24 warplane (78%). Only one in every ten respondents (11%) believes that Russia should restore its previous ties with Turkey, even if the Turkish administration does not apologize for the incident with the downed jet.
About 54% of the polled believe that Turkey has suffered at a greater extent as a result of the conflict. Thirty-five percent believe that the conflict has affected both sides equally, and only three percent said that Russia has suffered more.
WCIOM CEO Valery Fedorov believes that most Russians do not feel negative effects of the termination of Russia-Turkey bilateral ties yet. Russia "is not ready to forgive the blood and humiliation without Ankara's recognition of its guilt and without an appropriate apology," the official said.
