A resident from the settlement of Ufimskiy in the Achinskiy region has been accused of the unpremeditated murder of her own newly born child. The woman, who had been breastfeeding the child whilst intoxicated, will be judged as having caused accidental death through carelessness.
In January 2012, the 27 year old mother was discharged from the maternity ward at the Central Regional Hospital with her new-born son. She went home where she, together with other well-wishers and relatives celebrating the birth of her child, consumed 50 grams of wine and 1.5 litres of beer.
In a state of intoxication, the accused was breastfeeding her son every 2 hours. As a result of this, the baby received ethanol poisoning from the alcohol (the concentration of ethanol from the spirits in his blood was 0.4 per mille) and on the 17th January 2012 he died, reported the Moskovsky Komsomolets. Experts confirmed the cause of death.
Local law-enforcement authorities have begun an enquiry into this criminal act under Article 109 of the Russian Criminal Code (cause of death through carelessness). Now it will be for the court to decide.
