US scientists create artificial muscle of fishing line and sewing thread

U.S. scientists have created an artificial muscle from fishing line and sewing thread, an article published in Science magazine said.

To create the artificial tissue, the scientists used polymer and nylon fibers, of which fishing line and sewing thread are composed.

The result became a pleasant surprise. The production of such muscles is relatively inexpensive. In addition, the artificial tissue can hold items 100 times heavier than those that an average person could lift.

Artificial muscles contract and relax due to changing temperatures produced by built-in heating element. The inventors believe that their creation can be used for the production of humanoid robots.
