Nizhny Novgorod region Governor Valery Shantsev had a meeting with Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in the UK, Duchess of Abercorn Anastasia Alexandra Hamilton.
The Duchess, who visited the Nizhny Novgorod region for the first time, is a grand-grand-grand-daughter of Alexander Pushkin. This visit is especially significant as Russia marks 2015 as the Year of Russian Literature.
"Today, we talked to the governor, he is a very nice person. We talked about the Nizhny Novgorod region, discussed culture, social and economic development of the region, - said the Duchess of Abercorn. I admire the art of khokhloma, for example. I wish the knowledge of these wonderful folk arts and crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod region could reach as many people as possible," the Duchess said.
The head of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in the UK examined the exposition of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Boldino Museum-Reserve named after A.S. Pushkin. Valery Shantsev said that the great Russian poet had visited Bolshoye Boldino three times, and paid a visit to Nizhny Novgorod on 2-3 September 1833.
"The hotel, where Alexander Sergeevich stayed during that trip, was here, in the building of this museum," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region said.
"This is a wonderful museum filled with all sorts of interesting stories about Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, - said the Duchess. - In Ireland, where I live, there is a foundation named after Pushkin, where children write essays dedicated to Alexander Pushkin and his works."
