State-of-the-art aircraft missile system S-80FP built by NGO Splav in Tula, has entered service of the Russian Armed Forces. The system has attracted interest in foreign countries too, Splav CEO, Nikolai Makarovets, Hero of Russia, told Ria Novosti.
"The engine of the S-80FP is of smaller dimensions than that of S-80, and the weight of the warhead was increased 1.5 times. As a result, the efficiency has grown 5-10 times. This is a new level, just like we could compare the Grad with the Tornado-G. The shipments of the new system to the Russian army have already started," Makarovets told the news agency.
The S-80FP missile is "one of the world's best in its class, it significantly increases the combat value of an aircraft plane or a helicopter and reduces the number of required sorties," the official added.
"Other countries have shown interest in the S-80FP. We conduct business contacts on possible supplies," he also said. Details of the negotiations have not been specified.
The S-80FP was presented in February of this year at Defekspo 2014 in New Delhi. Makarovets told RIA Novosti then that the missile aroused great interest of the Indian side.
Noteworthy, On November 19, Russia marks the Day of missile troops and artillery.
