Southern Urals targets development of medicine as key priority

The key goal of the entire social bloc of the development strategy of the Chelyabinsk region is to increase life expectancy from 69 to 74 years in 2020.

"Clearly, increasing life expectancy and improving health is an objective of not only medicine alone, - the head of the region, Boris Dubrovsky said. - Promoting a healthy lifestyle, sports, environmental conditions play an important role at this point. Yet, the role of health care is difficult to overestimate. We must build the system of health care to be able to provide medical services to residents of other regions too. People should come here for medical treatment, and our region should be competitive at this point."

The Chelyabinsk Region Children's Hospital is a unique health facility, equipped with most advanced medical equipment, a powerful high-tech center providing specialized care for children from the whole region. The hospital uses video monitoring technology to determine the visual status and functional parameters of critically ill patients. With the help of the system, medical specialists can obtain  detailed information on the condition of patients in other hospitals.

"Clearly, telemedicine systems is the future that has long been a reality in many countries around the world. Why? Because we can not provide one and the same quality of medical care absolutely objectively, as the Russian Federation is a huge country. The same is happening around the world, - Oksana Moldovanova, president of Women's Health Foundation told Pravda.Ru. - In remote areas, one should be able to access telemedicine networks that will give an opportunity to diagnose, receive expert advice of a higher class, from regional or federal centers. All this can be achieved with the help of telemedicine technologies. So, of course, this is an innovative, breakthrough technology that should be developed further,  and that will certainly affect the quality of diagnosis of many patients. This practice is used in virtually all areas of health care, including oncology."

"The shortage of medical staff is a common problem in the world. More and more medical organizations use state-of-the-art technology to take care of their patients with the help of experience and knowledge of medical specialists from another part of the world. In addition, remote surgery has been developing recently as well, when experienced surgeons at one part of the world operate on patients staying in a different part of the world, through telecommunication links and robotic technology," Larisa Popovich, Director of the Institute Economics of Health of Higher School of Economics told Pravda.Ru.
