Russia bans adoption of children by gay couples

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree to simplify the procedure for adoption of orphans. The document was published on the website of the Cabinet.

The changes exclude certificates the conformity of housing conditions to sanitary and technical standards from the list of compulsory documents that are required to collect for adoption.

The decree also shortened the period (from 15 to ten days) to prepare and issue permit for citizens to adopt a child. The document simplifies the procedure for guardians to report about the storage and use of the property of adoptee.

To crown it all, the changes improve control over living conditions and upbringing of adopted children.

Dmitry Medvedev also signed the decree that bans the adoption of Russian children by same-sex foreign couples.
