The damage caused by corruption in the Russian army in six months amounted to 4.4 billion rubles, Russia's chief military prosecutor Sergei Fridinsky said.

Prosecutors found about 7,000 corruption offenses in the army. The total amount of property damage caused during the first six months of 2013 amounted to more than 4.4 billion rubles. Fridinsky noted that every fifth crime was related to corruption.

The first place among corruption crimes belongs to violations in the distribution and the use of funds allocated for state defense order. A significant portion of such crimes is associated with the involvement of intermediaries and phony companies for execution of government contracts.
