The international conference of journalists "Contemporary Russian Journalism: Questions and Answers" has finished in Nizhny Novgorod. For five days, representatives of regional, federal and international media were trying to identify main problems of journalism and find solutions to them.
Dozens of round tables, discussions, presentations and press conferences were organized for the participants of the tour. Representatives of mass media companies, from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka, shared their experiences and learned from colleagues.
One of the main initiators and organizers of the forum was the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, headed by Governor Valery Shantsev. The event ended with a plenary meeting "Formula of trust in the government" in Nizhny Novgorod. During the meeting, Mr. Shantsev once again stressed out the importance of the development of modern journalism.
"We are pleased that our media platform becomes a place for discussion of most important and pressing issues, - said Valery Shantsev opening the plenary meeting. - According to certain studies, the level of confidence in the press has recently dropped to 14 percent. New technologies, such as the Internet, have stepped far forward, striking a serious blow on traditional media. However, it is clear that neither new technologies, nor the level of trust can oust traditional radio, television and newspapers. One can win people's confidence in the media back by speaking the truth and publishing reliable information," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region said.
It is worth noting that during the plenary meeting, Vladimir Kostyunin, on behalf of the International Assembly of Capitals and Cities, awarded a commemorative medal to Valery Shantsev "For contributions to the development of local self-government."
"I am a frequent guest to Russian regions and I see different situations that vary in either direction depending on the personality of the governor. Not everyone in Russia knows who governs this or that region. Self-sufficient governors, know the value of themselves and of their work can manage situations, and people know such governors. They do not need to resort to various tricks to be recognized. Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev is such a leader," said Vladimir Kostyunin.
