The Nizhny Novgorod region is preparing to celebrate the Victory Day. Valery Shantsev, the Governor of the region, takes part an active part in the preparations. Owing to Mr. Shantsev's initiative, an outdoor war memorial has received two new exhibits.
The Nizhny Novgorod war memorial in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, was created in 1975 on the base of weapons and equipment produced in the city of Gorky during the Great Patriotic War.
One of the main exhibits is, of course, the legendary Katyusha field rocket launcher and GAZ-67B terrain vehicle. These two exhibits have been restored for the Victory Day.
As Governor Shantsev said, the regional government decided to address to specialists of GAZ Group with a request to find drawings and projects to restore the memorial exhibits of "Gorky Residents to the Front" war memorial.
"These machines provided for a breakthrough in the Great Patriotic War: the enemy was awed with Katyusha, the system was called "hell fire." The all-terrain vehicle GAZ-67B was irreplaceable for command and control officers," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev said.
The exhibits were severely damaged, their metal parts suffered considerably from corrosion, chassis were deformed - it was necessary to replace interior, exterior and control systems of the vehicles.
GAZ experts planned to complete the work by May 9 to the day of the Great Victory.
On April 26, Valery Shantsev had a meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The veterans expressed their gratitude to the governor for the preservation of war memorials.
