Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev has launched a new program "Social Navigation: a young family with a baby." The program was discussed at the regional interdepartmental meeting of the Ministry for Social Policy "Implementing the National Strategy for Action on Children in Nizhny Novgorod region."
Nizhny Novgorod region pays a great deal of attention to the development of mothers and children. As noted by a Duma deputy Nadezhda Gerasimova, the region can be considered exemplary.
"The region is improving its demographics, there are new payments to families. 180,000 children receive a variety of social support," said the deputy.
All the activities carried out in this area are overseen by the regional Ministry of Social Policy. Based on the results of their work in 2012, there was a reduction of juvenile crime by 18.3 percent. Birth rate increased by 7.1 percent, and there was a 16.2 percent increase in per capita income.
It was also noted that in 2012 over 14,000 certificates for regional maternity capital have been issued, and 84 percent of orphans are brought up in families.
The regional government noted that the region has been actively involved in programs and projects supporting children in difficult situations. Last year, six regional programs received financial support of the fund in the amount of $70 million.
"This year we will start the new program "Social navigator: a young family with a baby." We are planning to open rental stores where young parents could rent a stroller or other items," said Olga Noskova, regional Minister of Social Policy.
There will be also centers of psychological support for the mothers-to-be who belong to risk groups. There will be an opportunity to have social rehabilitation for babies and mothers in day time centers.
