In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a meeting of the Town Planning Board took place under the chairmanship of Governor Valery Shantsev. The participants of the meeting discussed the preparations for the World Cup in 2018. The board members reviewed the construction project of the new stadium, which will be designed for 45,000 spectators.
As Nizhny Novgorod region governor Valery Shantsev said, there was a preliminary design and first developments presented that will form the basis for further design.
"We had already considered various options for conceptual designs of the stadium on Strelka and we put the issue on the agenda of the Town Planning Board to hear the views from leading architects experts and planners of Nizhny Novgorod," said the head of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to Valery Shantsev, much of the work has already been done. The area for the construction and the shape of the football stadium have been chosen. According to the architects, it will be an open-air stadium of round shape. The building will be 45 meters high. All the seats will be situated under the roof. The stands will be equipped with a new heating system, which has never been used in Russia. Gas-infrared heaters will allow to raise the temperature in the area of the seats by 10-15 degrees as compared to the atmospheric temperature.
During the meeting, it was decided to cover the external design with panels to provide wind protection. Designers also need to work on color solutions for facades.
As the governor said, after the 2018 World Cup, the stadium will be used for public events.
"The weather may often be bad in Nizhny Novgorod during mass events. Of course, it is best to hold mass events on a weatherproof area in such cases," said Valery Shantsev.
The line-up of the stadium, as proposed by the designers, is fully compliant with FIFA's requirements. Design plans and project documentation are to be completed in September before they are handed over to authorities for state examination.
