Nizhny Novgorod opens Lower Volga Embankment

The grand opening of the Lower Volga embankment took place in Nizhny Novgorod. The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev and the head of the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod Oleg Kondrashov attended the ceremony.

"I have a great impression of this embankment. Everybody can now enjoy the beauty of our city. Now we plan to finalize the embankment from Grebnoy Channel to Chernigovskaya Street. This embankment is 9.5 kilometers long. People will be able to enjoy the beautiful views, and improve their health, because walking is very good healthwise," the governor said.

According to Oleg Kondrashov, the cost of the works for the reconstruction of the embankment in the first stage made up 60 million rubles. "All the works are to be finished in 2013. The money for this can be found. Valery Shantsev promised to help," said the head of the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod.

The Nizhny Novgorod authorities took care of fashionistas too. As Oleg Kondrashov said, the embankment was tiled with modern stone blocks, so that women will not ruin their high heel shows.

The reconstruction of the embankment was divided into three phases. The concept of the finishing of the Volga embankment - from Romodanovsky Railway Station to Podnovye settlement was designed by the Institute of the Development of the city, NizhegorodgrazhdanNIIproekt.

Valery Shantsev, in turn, promised to "make the 9,5-kilometer embankment to Chernigovskaya Street," build a balustrade and arrange street illumination.

"We plan to make the 9,5-kilometer embankment to Chernigovskaya Street, and then it will be possible to admire the beauty and improve health. Every-day walks of up to 10 kilometers mean health for all ages. I've already seen people looking at all this beauty. We will now finish the balustrade, install lampposts, and people will be able to come here all the year round, in all weathers to enjoy the views. I think that the combination of the Lower Volga embankment with the cableway and the Kremlin will be very attracting to our tourists," said the governor.
