Metro construction in Nizhny Novgorod nearly finished

Valery Shantsev, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, has recently inspected the metro construction in the city. The new line will connect the parts of the city beyond the river and the hills of Nizhny Novgorod. According to the governor, the work goes according to schedule. The construction works have been completed; specialists are decorating the interior of the stations.

The opening of Gorky metro station is scheduled for November 4. With the opening of the station, a journey from one part of the city to another will be reduced to 21 minutes.

"Now the residents of the Avtozavodsky district commute to the city center for 1.5-2 hours. With the introduction of the new metro station the journey will be reduced to 21 minutes," promised Shantsev. The local authorities are planning to spend one billion rubles to purchase four trains. The funds are going to be assigned from the regional and municipal budgets.

In addition, the opening of the new station will ease traffic for surface public transportation. The passenger traffic in the Nizhny Novgorod metro will grow three times.

"The tunnels have been prepared for the installation of cables and other equipment. The metro bridge is being finished. The railway tracks in the tunnels have been laid," said the governor.

The governor said that the construction of the first phase of metro lines in the mountainous part of the city was to be finished this year.

"The construction is in full swing. The tracks have been laid. They are mounting all necessary equipment now," the governor said. According to Shantsev, the residents of all buildings located within the range of the metro bridge construction will be resettled by April 15.

The construction of the Nizhny Novgorod Subway will cost  about 6.3 billion rubles this year. More than a half of these funds are to be allocated for the construction of transport approaches to the metro bridge across the Oka River.

For the time being, the Nizhny Novgorod Metro consists of Avtozavodskaya and Sormovskaya lines and 13 stations located in the industrial part of the city beyond the river. The lines are 17 km long. Fifteen new stations are planned to be built before 2025.
