China: Gang murders 37 civilians

Another gang attack took place in the PR China last week, in the towns of Huangdi and Elixku, Xinjiang, when hundreds of persons armed with axes and knives attacked the buildings of the local authorities, namely government offices and a police station.

 

215 of the attackers were arrested, 59 were killed by the authorities and 37 civilians were hacked or stabbed to death. The violence took place in the context of a fight between the Moslem Uighur and Han Chinese ethnic groups, and tensions rose during Ramadan.

 

The incident took place on July 28 and was described by the government of the State of Xinjiang as "a serious terrorist attack incident which has links to domestic and overseas terrorist organizations and was organized, premeditated, carefully planned and evil".
