The number of victims of the collision of a freight and passenger trains in the Moscow region has climbed to nine. Previously, it was reported that there were five people killed in the accident. Helicopters are being used to evacuate those who were injured in the crash.
A freight train hit a passenger train near Moscow in the afternoon of May 20. More than 50 people suffered injuries of various degree in the accident. The passenger train was traveling from Moscow to Chisinau, Moldova. Two cars of the passenger train derailed as a result of the collision.
According to preliminary information, an axle of one of the cars of the freight train broke, 16 cars of the freight train derailed and hit the passenger train that was traveling on parallel tracks.
