A resident of the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin Island, who went on a shooting spree in the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, said that he was drunk during the attack.
The 25-year-old suspect has not explained the motives of his act yet; a psychiatric examination will be conducted to estimate his sanity.
As a result of the attack, two people were killed. They were identified as 34-year-old resident of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (name not available) and Ludmila Pryashnikova, a nun. The authorities of the Sakhalin region have already expressed their condolences the families of the victims.
On Sunday, a man, an employee of a security agency, broke into the church during the service opening fire on worshipers and icons. Two people died on the spot, six others were injured and hospitalized.
