Russia to spend $2m to liquidate Syrian chemical weapons

Russia is prepared to spend about two million dollars for the complete elimination of chemical weapons in Syria. About 20 other countries intend to invest similar amounts as well.

However, Russia has refused to import Syrian chemical weapons for destruction. Instead, Russia will send specialists in radiation, chemical and biological protection. Russian military specialists, along with foreign counterparts, will monitor the safety of the process of neutralization of dangerous weapons. Russia also will provide transport for the export of shells to foreign range grounds.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that "once there were countries that were willing to pay for the war, there will be countries, if not the same, then different ones, that will be prepared to pay for the peaceful regulation of the problem."

The United States, for the time being, has spent $6 million on the purpose.
