A tragedy occurred during protests in the Brazilian city of Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo) on Thursday. An unknown individual, driving a SUV, tried to drive down the street that was packed with protesters. The person at the driving wheel literally slammed his vehicle into the crown of people, killing one person, Itar-Tass reports.
The protesters surrounded the Land Rover vehicle which is considered an extremely expensive brand in Brazil. At some point, the people began to behave aggressively. The driver pulled back and then hit the gas pedal. Breaking through the crowd of protesters, the vehicle knocked several people down and escaped from the crime scene. As a result, three people were injured and rushed to hospital. One of the protesters - 18-year-old Marcus Delefrate - died on the spot.
Police later found Land Rover left abandoned. The owner of the vehicle was established.
