FBI stormed the makeshift bunker in which Jimmy Lee Dykes, a 65-year veteran, had been keeping his five-year-old hostage for a whole week. On January 30th, he shot a school bus driver in the city of Midland, Alabama, kidnapped one of the students and barricaded himself in a home-made "anti-nuclear" bunker, which he had built in the courtyard of his house.
U.S. authorities were very reluctant when it came to the information on the development Midland drama. They even distributed an official message saying that there would be no information about the police operation provided to the media for some time due to the "sensitivity of the situation." Afterwards, it was only reported that the kidnapped boy was alive and that security forces were making every effort to release him.
On Tuesday, U.S. media reported that the negotiations with the kidnapper came to nothing, and it was decided to storm the bunker. Dykes killed in the operation. The boy's life is reportedly out of danger.
