Vice President of Hockey Club Ak Bars and a deputy of the Municipal Duma of the city of Kazan (Tatarstan Republic), Ravil Shavaleyev, fell out of the window on the third storey of the Republican Hospital. Shavaleyev was staying at the hospital for medical examination. The official suffered a fracture of pelvic bones and numerous bruises.
Law-enforcement officials said that Shavaleyev approached the window to smoke. He fell out of the window incidentally, they added.
The vice president of the hockey club was delivered to the emergency care unit, where he received surgery. The operation was a complicated one - it lasted for many hours.
Doctors estimated the condition of the 54-year-old official as critical.
According to the Health Ministry of Tatarstan, Ravil Shavaleyev was connected to the artificial respirating system.
Shavaleyev had been working at Ak Bars since 2004. The club has become Russia's champion three times since then. Shavaleyev also serves as a deputy of the Munucipal Duma of Kazan and an assistant to the general director of oil company JSC Tatneft.
