Nizhny Novgorod region works to execute import substitution program

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, an offsite meeting took place to discuss issues related to the implementation of the import substitution program at industrial enterprises in the region. Regional Governor Valery Shantsev set the goal to reach a 20-percent increase in the production of components that the region still purchases from other countries.

"The governor, while visiting enterprises of defense and mechanical engineering complexes, pays special attention to the issue of import substitution. The governor puts special emphasis  on the development of intra-regional cooperation. Today, all leading companies that execute large orders are supposed to have subcontracts with manufacturers in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Today, we are at the initial stage of the import substitution plan. One should raise the percentage of local productions of components up to 60% from the current 35-40%,"  Vladimir Nefedov, the Minister for Industry and Innovations of the Nizhny Novgorod region said.

According to the minister, more than a half of defense industry companies have conducted large-scale modernization that already allows to manufacture the products that had to be purchased from foreign manufacturers in the past.

Thus, JSC Nizhny Novgorod Research and Production Enterprise names after Frunze, in cooperation with Rohde & Schwarz have already established serial production of radio equipment for electronics and aerospace industries. Rohde & Schwarz, within the scope of partnership, has started shipping semi knocked down assembly systems for the subsequent production of radio equipment with Russian-language user interface. End products will be marked as "Made in Russia."
