The Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, inaugurated a school complex in Havana...

The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, inaugurated last Tuesday (9th) the educational complex "Vilma Espin Guillois" in the area of the Playa municipality, Havana. It was built in just 11 months at the initiative of Fidel.

The center is on two teaching blocks that include classes from pre-school through the sixth grade, library and computer lab, with a capacity for 140 students.

The educational complex, which opened a few days after the commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of the heroine Vilma Espin's birthday, also has a day care center that will host 34 children, a sports area and a medical office for doctors.

The teaching staff is composed of 31 professionals, including one with a doctorate in psychotherapy. By inaugurating the center, Fidel emphasized the efforts and commitment of construction workers who, from the very beginning of the project, received the unconditional support of military and civilian members of the security department.

Fidel spoke with children who were at the event for about two hours, as well as teachers, builders and community neighbors. In addition, he made comments on important current international issues, including climate change, weapons of mass destruction, the economic crisis and high fuel prices.  He said that these circumstances make life difficult to live on Planet Earth.

The revolutionary leader also referred to food production in the country, the need to diversify crops to increase yields and characteristics of the educational complex "Vilma Espin Guillois" opened at precisely the year that marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of National Hero José Martí and the 60th of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons in eastern Cuba, plus the 55th anniversary of the 9th of April.

The activity was attended by the members of the Politbureau of Cuba's Communist Party, such as Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdes, Army Corps General Abelardo Colome and the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Havana, Mercedes Lopez.

At the inauguration ceremony of the center, troubadours Eduardo Sosa and Pepe Ordaz and the Grupo Moncada, played a song to honor Cuba, accompanied by all present.

Before the conclusion, the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, invited those present to listen to the song by a friend, composed and performed by a group of fine artists and dedicated to Commander of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez, entitled "The Return of a Friend."

This is yet another project for the betterment of the people of Cuba.  As Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro has a long list of good deeds to his eternal credit, both internally and worldwide.  The small limited resources island has been a blessing to needy, hopeless people all over the world, bringing them education, health care and housing...blockades, sanctions and sabotage have not managed to hamper these great selfless humanitarian efforts..
