No survivors in the Chinese plane crash

Chinese government officials said on Sunday that there were no survivors in a &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/accidents/2003/01/10/41870.html ' target=_blank>plane crash which occurred in northern China.

There were 47 passengers and six crew members on board the plane headed for Shanghai.

A worker at Baotou Airport, a city in the Inner Mongolia region, said the plane crashed shortly after take-off early Sunday morning, reports the CBC News.

The plane crashed into a frozen lake in Nanhai Park "only about a dozen seconds" after taking off, Xinhua said. The area is about 330 miles northwest of &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/columnists/2002/11/26/39994.html ' target=_blank>Beijing. A worker in the ticket office at Baotou Airport said the crash site was just outside the airport in a park surrounding a tributary of the Yellow River.

Police and firefighters were breaking the ice on the lake to search for victims. State television reported that 17 bodies had been pulled from the lake by midday Sunday. It showed pieces of the burned-out plane sitting in the lake, as emergency workers in small rowboats pushed ice out of the way, wrote the Guardian.
