This Saturday an official ceremony of opening the new checkpoint will take place. It will be attended by the heads of the State Customs Committee of the Russian Federation, the southern customs department, the heads of Dagestan and a delegation from Azerbaijan.

The Dagestani customs house reports that the Yarag-Kazmalyar compound with a capacity of 500 automobiles and 1,000 passengers per day was built within four years (1999-2002). Expenses amounted to over 250 million rubles.

The compound is equipped with modern customs control facilities, including facilities for control of radioactive materials.

In the opinion of experts, the opening of the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint will facilitate the development of foreign economic relations with Azerbaijan, other CIS and non-CIS countries.
