European Commission to allocate 3 mln euros to help Chechen population

The European Commission (the highest executive body of the European Union) decided on Wednesday to allocate 3 mln euros to render financial assistance to Chechen population.

The means are allocated to render assistance to those categories of Chechens, which need money badly, as well as to Chechen migrants in the adjoining republic of Ingushetia.

The financial assistance is meant for 253 thousand people and will support them until winter.

When commenting on the decision, European Union's Commissioner Poul Nielson said that "it is not only a humanitarian moral step but also a manifestation of international responsibility in the name of European solidarity."
